Vatican museums are loaded with several ancient sculptures art and architecture.These handy work have been gathered by the customary popes over the time period of centuries. Many antique and priceless pieces of paintings and sculptures are preserved in these museums.
1. The Sistine Chapel preserves its impressive paintings that were painted by the famous artists of those times. 3. The Pinacoteca is a structure that is dated back to 1931 which was inaugurated by Pius IX in 1932. This is basically a house, stuffed with paintings and the belongings of several Popes. Many valuable and famous paintings were taken away by Napoleon during his rule but he had to return it after the Congress of Vienna agreement. The structure was designed and constructed by the famous architect Luca Beltrami in the 19th century square garden. The preservation of 118 paintings were taken care of by Pius VI during the eighteenth century. The collection grew extensively over the period and nowadays it has around 460 paintings in the eighteen rooms, chronologically. The collection includes paintings of great artists like Giotto to Beato Angelico, Melozzo da Forli to Perugino and artist like Raphael, Tiziano, Veronese, Caravaggio and Crespi.
4. Pio-Christian Museum has the Christian ancient pieces, once displayed in the Lateran Museum. This again was founded by Pius IX and it stuffed with sculptures, inscriptions, carvings and other archeological findings of the sixth century. The prominent piece you will discover is the statue of Good Shepherd which was recovered back in the eighteenth century.
