Health & Nutrition For Older Cats

One of the most important things you can do for your older cat's health is to see that he or she gets enough exercise. This is especially key if you have an indoor cat. When a cat doesn't get enough exercise, it can gain weight and become overweight or even obese. And, just like with humans, not exercising muscles and joints enough can lead to frailty.

Get your cat involved in hunting and playing on a daily basis. Try buying some new toys for your cat, or get creative with what you can find around your house. Cats sometimes like to play with things they think you don't want them to have, so hiding toys and other objects for your cat to find can be a fun game.

Have you ever taken your cat for a walk? Cats are not as accustomed to walking on a lead as dogs, but it's not unheard of.
You can also consider getting another pet. Sometimes older cats will become more active when they have a younger friend to play with.

As far as cat nutrition, you can keep your older cat on a good diet by choosing one of many cat foods designed specially for senior cats. Proper pet diet is important no matter the age of an animal, but it is even more crucial to apply proper cat nutrition when your cat is aging.

If you aren't sure which cat food to choose, try using the Product Selector tool on our Web site for assistance. Science Plan, Prescription Diet, and Nature's Best are all excellent choices for pet diet.

You should also make sure that your cat has regular access to fresh water. Some cats may not seem to drink much, but perhaps this is because you are only offering them a little? Try refilling the water bowl every time it is empty.
