Bingo Over the Years

The history of bingo is an interesting, intriguing and funny one. With twists and turns and several funny tales (namely how the game changed from being called ‘Beano’ to Bingo’), bingo has always been a popular game and still played all over the world to today. From the casinos in Las Vegas to the bingo halls on a wet Wednesday evening, it is still a very much loved and fun game to play. For some however, standard bingo doesn’t quite cut it for them. Maybe it’s not challenging enough or maybe the stakes aren’t high enough, which is the reason many people opt to play a variation of bingo, for example, Keno.

Keno is a popular game on the American shores, mixing bingo and lottery together. In most Keno games, a large sphere holds 80 balls, marked from 1 to 80. 20 balls are taken from this area throughout each game and are called to the players. Prior to the game starting, each player marks down which balls they think are going to be called, choosing any number of between 1 and 20. The less balls you choose, the less money you win. The more balls you choose, the more money you win. However, if you chose, for example, 5 balls, all 5 balls would have to be called, meaning that whilst choosing a low number of balls offers smaller winnings, it is much more of a regular occurrence – especially when you consider that choosing 20 balls and having all 20 called has the odds of 1 in 3,535,316,142,212,173,800.000

Pay outs for Keno can be vastly different depending on where you play. Playing at an online casino and you may only be offered type of payout. However, play at one of the larger casinos in Las Vegas and you’ll be provided with over 20 Keno tables, each with their own individual pay out structure.

Of course, some bingo players just prefer a variation on the traditional bingo game. There are six main variations of bingo –

Progressive Jackpot Bingo – this type of bingo is played exactly the same to regular bingo, with the only difference being that the jackpot prize increases continuously. The rules for winning the jackpot can very depending on where you’re playing, but the jackpot itself is always guaranteed to be an attractive amount.

Cover All – difficult and tiring, but extremely rewarding, Cover All requires the player to cover their entire bingo card. No quick games, but as Cover All is usually the game played with Progressive Jackpots, it can be financially rewarding.

Blood, Sweat and Tears – Playing three games on one card, this is almost as tiring as Cover All. With the four corners not often counting, there’s a reason why this variation is called Blood, Sweat and Tears!

Six Pack / Nine Pack – more straightforward than the above two variations, Six Pack or Nine Pack simply requires the player to have a square completed in their card of either six numbers (two rows of three above or below each other) or nine numbers (a 3 x 3 number square) to win.

Postage Stamps – a popular variation, the aim of Postage Stamps is to have two 4 x 4 squares covered in either corner of the bingo card.

Top and Bottom – with simple rules for this variation, all the player has to do here is cover both the top and bottom lines of their bingo cards.
