Having a successful business is a rewarding experience that makes the sleepless nights and frustrating experiences a piece of cake. But when things are slow, running a business can a time consuming and aggravating experience. Some business owners find themselves doing things they did not expect when they started their business. As a result, they end up spending more than they invested.

Unfortunately, marketing falls in this category. Business owners often find themselves short of cash and unable to use the best marketing strategy to promote their business. But if looking for a low cost yet effective marketing tool, there are actually plenty of materials you can use if you only look around. There is actually nothing wrong with using old school materials. In fact, you can save more and achieve better marketing if you use the tried and tested traditional materials such as the postcards.

Post cards are small but they pack a lot of marketing power. They are simple to produce requiring no special tool and equipment. What you only need to keep in mind is to create the catchiest and most compelling message and you can be sure to get the response that you want. In conceptualizing your message, ask the following questions:

- What is your goal? Is it to generate sales, get new customers or to promote brand awareness?
- Who will be your target market? You need to define the demographics of your target audience. How old are your target customers, their gender, lifestyle, hobbies, income level, etc.
- How frequent are you going to send your cards? The more your send, the more people will remember you.

Keep in mind that there is not enough room in your cards to put a lot of information so you need to communicate your message and your offer immediately. With a well written message, people will easily understand what you have to tell them.

There are actually two sides in your card: the front and the back. The front contains the headline that is designed to attract attention through words or graphic. It also contains your message and offer. You have to make sure that the front side is compelling and enticing enough for people to notice at once.

The back side contains the address and is often the first side people see as most mail carriers put the card in the mail slot with the back side up. Make sure to make this part equally enticing as the front side. Put your complete contact details and if you have additional message to communicate to your customers, put it in this side.

So how can you make your message is revealing and intriguing? Aside from using bullet points to highlight your benefits, you can do the following:

- Present your benefits and not simply the features of the products or services you offer.
- Give an offer that is hard to resist.
- Put a deadline to your offerings to create a sense of urgency.
- Make sure to include a strong call to action so your customers know what they need to do next.

All this will help make sure your prospects read your postcard printing and take action at once. Don't forget to make your cards exceptional so you can achieve the best results in no time.
