Winklevoss Twins Don’t Give Up

Even after being awarded a hefty sum from Facebook after winning their lawsuit, the Winklesvoss twins are back for more. Cameron and Tylerâ€"yes those are their namesâ€"have decided that the millions they received were not enough. They claim that the settlement they reached did not represent their just due. Although the 9th U.S. Circuit, a federal appeals court, already dismissed their request to revisit the settlement, the twins are ready to take their request to the Supreme Court.

The Winklevoss twins want to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to force the appeals court to reopen their settlement. The issue of contention is whether Facebook devalued their stock to avoid paying out as much to the twins who believe that they are owed more based on this alleged illegal activity. The 29-year old Harvard graduates are represented by Howard Rice, the San Francisco based law firm that specializes in a wide variety of practice areas and industries.

I don’t know about you but if someone awarded me millions of dollars after a tedious legal battle, I don’t know how motivated I would be to go after more through the legal system. I feel like I would take my money and go and relax on an island somewhere and sip on a fruity drink with an umbrella and fruit wedge at the top. I can only imagine that I would at least be somewhat content with my settlement and move on to inventing the social networking site that would crush Facebook and put them in a position of utter obscurity. But alas, that may be an impossible feat.

Why do these twins have the audacity to think that the Supreme Court has time for these shenanigans? I would rather see the Supreme Court, which my tax dollars support, allot their time and effort to review cases that actually matter. There are several other pressing matters in this country, like…..say privacy, immigration and religious freedom. I sincerely hope that this matter doesn’t reach the highest court in the land. Actually, on second thought, I hope that it does so that these guys can learn a lesson in humility. I’m sure that whatever legal fees they incur in this venture will teach them to take the money and run next time.

But who am I to judge? These guys are probably only doing what they were taught to do from birth all the way through their Ivy League education. They were most likely taught to fight for what they believe in, never give up or take no for an answer. These life tips are what children are raised hearingâ€"so can you blame them for trying? But if this effort is out of pure greed then I have no sympathy for them. If indeed Facebook suckered them out of millions by participating in fraudulent acts, then I hope the twins get the pay day I’m sure they dream of each night.
