Colorado is called the Centennial State because it joined the Union in 1876, one hundred years after the United States had officially become a separate nation. Settlers that first arrived to North America spent the first few decades developing the land on the east coast. When pioneers first advanced through the frontier, they were mesmerized by the sprawling and diverse landscape of the American west. There they found plains, mountains, valleys, canyons, forests, rivers, lakes and much more. Among the areas that were found was the area they began to call Colorado. Even before European settlers explored and conquered this area, Native Americans had occupied the land. Colorado has been noted as one of the most beautiful and bountiful areas by both of these groups.

Even today, Colorado is still revered for its spectacular natural environment. On any given day in Colorado, you can view the stars above, wildlife in action and gorgeous mountaintops from a distance. If you prefer to be up close to this, all you have to do is visit or live in areas like Eagle County, just a few hundred miles from Denver, the state’s capital and most populous city. Eagle County is home to Beaver Creek, Vail and Avon, a few of the small town communities there. These towns are home to Vail Ski Resort and Beaver Creek Resort, two of the most popular and well respected ski resorts in the country. In this area visitors and residents can find several activities to entertain themselves. There are frequent community festivals and events along with an abundance of outdoor activities. Skiing, bike riding, hunting, snowboarding and fishing are just a few of the options that people have to keep busy.

With so many hiking trails in Eagle County, many people decide to visit each year just to experience a natural environment that is tranquil and serene.
