Google Advertising

There are a few ways to advertise on Google. The effectiveness really depends on the business model and products/services offered. PPC (Pay per Click) Advertising and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) are the most popular methods to market on Google.

PPC is a bidding system where you only pay Google if your ad is clicked on. A user searches for a term and sponsored listings are displayed if they’re relevant to the keyword searched. The user is then directed to the site if the ad is clicked. The ads are displayed along the top or side of the search engine results page.

This method of marketing is only effective if your ads are relevant to the search terms and the landing pages on your site are relevant to your ads. It can get very costly for the advertiser and mostly offers short term solutions. You must constantly review analytics and your conversion rates to optimize the campaign. Like most marketing and advertising on the internet, PPC is very competitive. It takes lots of time and money to hold on to a good standing and conversions once it’s obtained.

Cost per click (CPC) is the sum paid by an advertiser to Google for a single click on your advertisement. This single click can run you anywhere from $2 â€" $100. CPC varies depending on the level of competition for a particular keyword. It is likely that you wouldn’t even consider this strategy if your plan wasn’t to bid on keywords that would most likely be searched by those in your niche market. Understand that if you are bidding on high ranking keywords, so are your competitors.

There is a better alternative to advertising on Google that does not involve paying Google each time your site or ads are clicked. This alternative is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is the process of improving the visibility of your website on Google via natural and organic means. Some of these elements include on-site optimization, off-site optimization and conversion optimization.

On-site optimization

On-site optimization refers to the things you can do on your website that will make it more Google friendly. This includes keeping your site constantly updated with fresh, relevant and important content, optimizing the page elements and constantly reviewing analytics. Google considers the user first and foremost. You want to be sure that a user will visit your site and get exactly what they want from their search.

Off-site optimization

Off-site optimization refers to the ranking of a site due to factors that are outside of your site, namely backlinks. Google sees links back to your site as votes from outside sources for your site. The best way to build backlinks is through research, original and quality content and a lot of effort.

Conversion optimization

Conversion optimization is the process of increasing conversion rates on your site by testing different elements and versions on your site. There are many test methods used to gauge which conversion strategies will work best for your website.
