Android Battery - Deal Breaker

I recently announced to the world that I finally dumped BlackBerry and opted for an Android, a Thunderbolt by Verizon to be exact. I went on and on about how much cooler than BlackBerry this phone is and I even did a little BlackBerry bashingâ€"what a way to treat an ex? Now, the “newness” of my Droid has begun to wear off a little bit and I’m slowly getting to know it for what it really isâ€"sounds like most relationships doesn’t it? Here’s what I’ve discovered now that the honeymoon is coming to an end: this battery sucks!

There has to be something that I am not getting here because this can’t be right. I fully charge my phone overnight (seems like it takes all night for it to obtain this full charge), I take my Droid off the charger at about 8:15 and it’s on the outs by 12. What??! This is insane. Of course, I had heard the rumors about Droid’s battery but I guess a few parts of me thought (hoped) the rumors were all exaggerations. They weren’tâ€"the rumors were understated. The battery isn’t “weak” or “could be better”â€"it’s flat out horrible!

How am I to enjoy the many features this device has to offer if it’s cutting off when I’m just about to get into it? God forbid I spend my days somewhere where there isn’t any power outlet for me to plug-in to. What will I do then? Suffer, that’s what.

I had to do research. I needed to know that this wasn’t about me, it’s about Droidâ€"the blame game always finds its place in relationship turmoil. I start my search and what’s the first thing that I discover? Well, according to Google co-founder Larry Page, it IS me! “If anyone is not getting a full day’s worth of battery, there’s something wrong,” states Page. Uhh…ya think? “It’s probably user habits and third-party apps causing battery woes. “When there is software running in the background, that just sort of exhausts the battery quickly,” he continues.

This device is still new to me so I don’t pretend to know it all. I took Page’s notion into consideration and did a little personal research. I made sure all applications were closed after use, I turned off Wi-Fi when it wasn’t needed, I stopped most syncs and I even dimmed my screen so much that I can barely see it. All this for the sake of my battery and what did it give me in return? That ol’ trusty, orange, blinking indication that it was about to sign offâ€"I give up.

I don’t know what to do at this point. I’m already in love here but this is certainly a glitch. This isn’t a deal breaker for me, and I did know this beforehand but I just wish things could be different. I’ve been told time and time again that you can’t have it allâ€"I was hoping that just this once…
