Metal Cutting Saws

Saws such as bandsaws or cold saws are power tools that may be used for cutting metal. A bandsaw uses a blade consisting of a continuous band of metal with teeth along one edge used to cut various workpieces. The band rides of two or three wheels that rotate in the same plane. Bandsaws are generally powered by water, steam, wind, gas engine, animal power or electronic motor. Bandsaws are used for metalworking and woodworking and produces uniform cutting action as a result of a evenly distributed tooth load. They are also used for cutting a variety of other materials particularly curved and irregular shapes or straight cuts. The width of the band and the lateral flexibility determines the radius of a curve that can be cut on a particular saw.

Bandsaws are available in vertical and horizontal designs with band speed ranging from 40 feet per minute to 5,000 feet per minute. Horizontal bandsaws may employ a gravity fed blade or the rate of descent may be controlled by a hydraulic cylinder bleeding through an adjustable valve.

A cold saw is a sawing machine that uses a circular saw blade to cut metal. These machines transfer the heat generating by cutting to the chips created by the saw blade. This allows the blade and material being cut to remain cold. Cold saws are equipped with an electric motor and a gear reduction unit to reduce the saw blades rotational speed while maintaining constant torque. These saws either use a tungsten carbide-tipped or solid high speed steel circular saw blade that may be resharpened.

The great thing about cold saws it that they produce minimal burr with no sparks, discoloration or dust. In order to prevent movement during the cutting process the material being cut must be mechanically clamped to prevent movement during the cutting process. In choosing the appropriate cold saw for your need you are encouraged to carefully choose the appropriate number of teeth, saw blade type, cutting speed and feed rate. Cold saws are intended to be used with a flood coolant to keep the saw blade teeth colored and lubricated.

There are several cold saws and band saws offered by Machinery Values. Find the metal cutting saw that would be best for your cutting needs.
