Apple Responds to iPhone Tracking

Well, well, well if it isn’t Apple coming behind their mess up trying to now play cleanup. How convenient? It appears that now, after quite some time (too long in my opinion) Apple is responding to “allegations that they track iPhone/iPad users whereabouts at all times. In fact, they’ve gone as far out on the limb as to say that they’ve never tracked user’s i-device period. Riiighhhtt, Apple, of course not. Perhaps you won’t have any trouble explaining the log that pops up when an iPhone/iPad is synched, in that case.

To catch those up that may be out of the loop, just last week security researchers Pete Warden and Alasdair Allan released a report stating that your iPhone or iPad is keeping a record of every step you take storing the recorded data and sharing it any device that syncs with your iPhone or iPad. Appalling, yes, I know. This information hit the net about a week ago and Apple JUST decided to address this MAJOR issue today. I’m no Inspector Gadget or anything but to me this reeks of suspicion. What’s been going on over there, Apple? Been trying to get a believable enough story together to silence the alarm in hopes that your iPhoners won’t jump ship? Took you too long to get back to us on this issue, is all I’m saying.

Apple has now offered a little news on this tracking situation explaining that it’s not people that the company is tracking, but rather cell towers. Really, Apple? Had no idea there was a cell tower in my purse but who knows what could be at the bottom of that thing. In a recent press release Apple went on to say “Apple is not tracking the location of your iPhone. Apple has never done so and has no plans to ever do so.”

According to Apple, what users are imagining to be a log is in fact “a database of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers.” This database is said to help the iPhone calculate location in a much quicker and efficient manner than GPS. Apple goes on to somewhat explain that when an iPhone is synched with a computer there is an encrypted file that appears. This encrypted file is a cache that is downloaded onto each phone because the entire database is too big to keep on each phone. I’d like you to try explaining that last sentence to me in the comments section because I simply haven’t a clue. Apple goes on to say that it receives all of this information in an anonymous and encrypted form but they can’t identify the source it comes from.

Apple says they haven’t brought this to users attention before because it’s too complicated. You got that right, Apple. I have no idea what you’re talking about and I STILL don’t trust you. Thanks.

Apple has taken users around the block with this loaded explanation and even after attempting to understand most users are still exactly where they startedâ€"confused and unhappy. Listen, Apple, I think it’s time that you come up with a better explanation because this encrypted mumbo jumbo isn’t selling. iPhone’s off until further notice! Now try tracking that!
