Dealing With Cluttered Papers

Don't you just hate those paper clutter? Are you having trouble getting rid of them? One issue is obvious here, you just can't make a decision. It may seem like a minor kind of indecision, but paper clutter at home takes away most of the energy you would have spent concentrating on what you need to do, instead of constantly being distracted by false hopes and promises to yourself that you will clean up all that junk. You may not admit it but this clutter will be a great distraction to you. If you don't want to have to deal with this kind of distraction, the solution is simple. Get rid of that paper clutter - no ifs, no buts.

The initial step is to set a day just for managing all that paper that you may have housed for all eternity. You need to actually set aside a day for this because, first, you've probably been putting off this task since forever, this task of getting rid of everything you don't need. Second, if you plan other activities on this day, you may just drop the clutter-cleaning part and go for whatever seems more fascinating to you - just as you may have been doing in the past. So to make sure you will actually see the day when your home or office is paper clutter-free, just cross out a particular day in your calendar and do not plan anything else to do on it.

Before this day when you plan to take on your problem with paper clutter, get yourself five boxes, each labeled IMPORTANT BUSINESS, IMPORTANT PERSONAL, BILLS, UNDECIDED and JUNK. This part just may be the toughest, though. You're going to have to sort through all that paper and decide if you really need to keep them, if you should throw them out or if you'd like more time to decide where they should go.

Naturally, the Important Business box is where your important documents go, such as hard copies of your office reports, documents you may have brought home from the office so you could work on them over the weekend, etc. The Important Personal box is where those important papers pertaining to your personal life go - a list of things to do for your wedding, the photography studio contract which you still need to review, etc. The Bills box speaks for itself. It's too easy to misplace bills that we just put them wherever we can see them often so we can be reminded about the payments we must make.

The issue is, these bills can be such an eyesore if they are just about everywhere, so it's good to have a box where they all go. Undecided is for those stuff which you just can't seem to decide whether to keep or to throw away. These are things you'll need additional time for making a decision. Instead of letting them "loiter" on your desk, put them in one place - that box. And, of course, the Junk box also speaks for itself. This one is the hardest to fill, but you can make it simple by imagining a worst case scenario for each item you consider throwing into it. Ask yourself the question, what's the worst thing that can happen if I throw this piece of paper away? If the scenario is not that bad, throw it away.

Author Resource:- One great way to label your boxes is by using a personalized notepad or bridge score pads where you can also write the documents you have put in each box. This way, you don't only have a clutter-free desk, but you'll also know just where to check when you go looking for something.
