Are you a Mac or a PC

There was a recent study on Huffington Post that gave a few statistics regarding those that use PC’s and those that opt for Macs. Seeing as how I’m a Mac lover you can imagine that I was more than intrigued by this study. The study on the Huffington Post piggy backed off a Hunch (the latest project from Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake) article that really dove into the subject matter.

According to a hunch blog “We found that people who choose one or the other â€" and 75 percent of the 400,000 people we asked did self-identify as either more Mac or PC â€" exhibit very distinct demographics, personality traits, and aesthetic/food/media choices.” This study got as specific as detailing whether Mac or PC users like McDonald’s fries (PC won). Some of the other interesting data that was compiled during the study is address below:

According to the study

* Mac users are 22 percent more likely than PC users to be ages 18 to 34, while PC people are more likely to be 35 to 49.
* 67 percent of Mac users have a degree from a four-year college (or higher) compared to 54 percent of PC users.
* The cult of Mac is 13 percent more likely than PC users to say they’re “unique and different.”
* PC users are more likely to compare discussion about computers to “struggling with a foreign language,” while Mac people are 21 percent more likely to consider themselves “computer-savvy gearheads.”
* PC users opt for the classic Americana of tuna fish, hero and patty melt sandwiches, while Mac users choose hummus, Bánh Mi and shawarm
* PC users are 38 percent more likely to say they have a better grasp on mathematical concepts; Mac users are 12 percent more likely to say the same for verbal skills.

I can see how so of these points may be somewhat valid but in many ways it seems to me that these statistics were gathered out of thin air with no real merit. Patty melt sandwiches against tuna hummus, really? I’d be more inclined to know how something vital like how many of these Mac users were left-handed as opposed to PC users. My guess would be that about 83% of lefty’s rocked with the Mac while the remainder were PC friendly. There is absolutely no premise for this theory outside of the fact that I myself am left handed, mind you, but I figure if Hunch can make something up why can’t I?

Don’t get me wrongâ€"I do think there is something to this whole Mac vs PC thingâ€"kind of along the same lines as the theories describing Blackberry vs. iPhone users. In the simplest terms one user just comes off a little more saavy and progressive than the other (you take a lucky guess as to which device falls under this category). There is nothing more to be gathered from this than a mere “matter of fact”. Learn what type of computer someone uses and you’ll know everything else you need to know. That being said, what does your computer say about you?
