Ringing ears -- the medical term is 'tinnitus' -- is a condition where the sufferer can hear sounds or noises in their ears or head, but where there are no external sources for that noise. Therefore the blood flow in and around your ears is more turbulent and so the 'sound' of this, compared to outside ambient noise, is much louder. Hence you hear the sounds of tinnitus, or if you already have tinnitus, the ringing appears much worse.

These are sounds such as ringing, whooshing, buzzing, roaring, swishing, hissing, clicking, ticking, etc. So although you have probably searched for 'ringing ears' or similar, this and the other sounds all refer to tinnitus.
So now that we know that hypertension can cause, or at the very least make ringing in the ears even worse, what can you do about it? The first thing is to consult your physician to measure your blood pressure. If it's found to be too high then he / she will recommend a course of action, which may, or may not, include drug therapy. It's almost certain to include some important lifestyle changes such as dietary changes (e.g. avoiding fat and salt, etc.), stopping smoking, avoiding or reducing alcohol, taking daily exercise, losing weight, and so on.
It's important that you follow your doctor's advice if you want to eliminate your ringing ears. Apart from the torture of your tinnitus, high blood pressure can lead to extremely serious, even fatal, health problems as you must be all to well aware of these days.
