Memory is a very important part of the computer system. This is the place where all data and programs are stored, either temporarily or permanently. All information in computer's memory is stored in binary digits. Memory is basically of two types. These are volatile and non volatile. Random access memory (RAM) is the example of volatile memory. In this article we will discuss why computer memory test is required and how to do this.

A computer memory test needs to be done for testing the functionality of RAM and detect any defects. Since the memory of the computer is used constantly, there is high chance of memory failing. RAM acts like a working space while performing any operation on your computer. Due to this reason, if there is any problem in RAM, it could result in lock-ups, error messages popping up, and boot up problems, etc. And errors in the computer memory can only be detected through a computer memory check.

When it comes to computer memory test you have two options. You can either use specific applications and software or test hardware devices. To resolve the problem you can consult an online technical support provider too. How will you understand the memory is faulty? Well, if the memory on your PC is faulty, it can cause diverse problems. If you find the computer keeps rebooting itself, if the computer refuses to boot properly or if you can't install Windows or any other program file then there is problem on your computer's memory. If your computer crashes on random occasion then too it is because of the memory.

Let's discuss how to perform computer memory test using software. Are you using Windows 7 or Windows Vista? If yes, then there is an application on your system called Windows Memory Diagnostics. This application will help in memory testing. Click on Start and type the word 'memory' in the space provided in the 'start' menu. This application will allow you to test the memory right away. You can select the options and perform the memory test. There are also many memory testers available in the market. Some of these are Memtest86 and DocMemory, etc. These applications are free and very easy to run.

Let's check how to perform computer memory test by using hardware. To perform this task you need to arrange an additional memory from another computer and use it for memory testing on your PC. This will ensure whether the memory on your computer is in good condition or not. Remember, to get optimum performance from our PC you need to protect the RAM.
