Prostitution is now legal. Well not exactly. A site has taken the age old premise of prostitution and modernized it quite a bit. In this case, you don’t really pay for sex but for the chance to go on a date with a person. The online dating site, whatsyourprice.com promotes what most would consider a form of prostitution. It works rather simply. Users of the site are split into two groups. The first group consists of the attractive, or women. The other group is comprised of the generous, or men. The attractive entice the generous to want to date them by posting a general profile including background, features and a picture.
Everything seems normal right? Wrong! The women also name their price, as in the price required for them to agree to go on a date with the generous. These men are called generous because they either agree or disagree to pay the asking price for a date with a particular attractive woman. If the woman agrees to accept the generous man, they go on a date. The company that owns the site by no means claims to promote prostitution, arguing that sexual acts have nothing to do with the purchased dates. They insist that paying for the company of another isn’t related to sex although the encounter may lead to physical intimacy in the future.

Instead of trying to woo a woman into accepting an offer for a date, this site helps men and women cut to the chase. Men decide if they can afford to pay the asking price and the women decide if they want to spend time with the guy. In my view, I wouldn’t call this prostitution but more like paid companionship. Paying for a date isn’t really conducive to developing a real relationship however. The interaction becomes all about money. If the woman wasn’t being paid, she probably wouldn’t be on that date. So realistically, how far could this go? The whole thing seems creepy. I can’t imagine that the woman actually cares about her date. She is probably more focused on the money. This is where the prostitution comparison comes into play. With prostitution, people come together out of an exchange of financial resources and services. Whatsyourprince.com is allowing men to pay for a service; a service that they claim is sexless.
I have to wonder what their rules and regulations are. There contract has to be airtight because should anything go wrong on that date, who then will be blamed? If any illegal sexual conduct takes place during or after that date, who will be held responsible? Of course, I admire the capitalistic spirit with which this site had to be conceived. People will always come up with creative ways to make money off of other people. The scary part is that there are two types of guys that will pay for a date. He will either be truly desperate in his quest for love or a pervert that can’t get a date for a reason. No matter how much they make per date the attractive are screwed.
