Many people have differing standards when it comes to deciding on who their friends are. Everyone qualifies their friends based on certain conditions. I have friends that I only speak to twice a year and those that know about every detail of my life the second something happens. I have friends from my childhood, work friends, church friends, college friends….you name it. People tend to categorize their friends. You may say that you have ten friends but would only feel comfortable with asking one to loan you money. Does this mean that the other nine aren’t your real friends? Of course not. You just have a different kind of relationship with them.
This can definitely be said of Facebook friends. Facebook is one of the highest used social networking sites, with almost 50% of Americans having an account. People use Facebook to stay connected with their friends and family. But friending someone on Facebook doesn’t necessarily mean that you are actually friends. Most of your Facebook friends are probably associates and acquaintances. Eversave, a daily deals site, has actually come up with some numbers based on a survey of 400 women regarding their Facebook friends. The study dug deep into how these women actually feel about their so-called friends. 84% of the women surveyed said that they are annoyed by their Facebook friends.

Apparently women of Facebook aren’t as friendly towards their friends. The survey goes on to mention how many women are annoyed with their friends and why. Most of the respondents have an issue with friends that complain too much on Facebook. 63% of the women surveyed hate it when their friends whine all the time. The other most hated group, with 41% reporting annoyance, are those that constantly share their political viewpoints that are either controversial or of no importance. Female Facebook users are also fed up with their friends that overly brag about themselves and their accomplishments as well as friends that continuously post about their children.
The survey went as far as to ask each participant if they were friends with certain Facebook types, as in personality types. The types include Drama Queen, Proud Mama, Poser, Liker, Slactivists, Documentarian, One-Upper, Stalker, Frenemy and Airbrusher. 60% of survey participants reportedly can’t stand Drama Queens and Documentarians the most.
Annoyed doesn’t seem so bad huh? After all, people are annoyed by the people they love the most. Being annoyed with your friend doesn’t exactly make them any less of a friend. The survey merely points out that the same people that you have an issue with are present on your friend list. Many of the Facebook friends that you are annoyed with are just as annoyed with you. Most Facebook friendships are just that: relationships that are limited to Facebook. There is so much pretend friendliness. They don’t go beyond the images you see and the posts you read. The results of this survey don’t exactly come as a surprise. It would have been more interesting to find out how men view their Facebook friends.
