The Dolomiti are situated in the north east of Italy and these mountains have a similar geological structure. Nowadays a UNESCO Natural World Heritage, In August 2009, they were declared a natural heritage site. The name Dolomiti comes from the famous French mineralogist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu who was the first to describe the rock, a kind of carbonate rock that gives to the mountain its unmistakable shapes and colors. But Dolomiti are not only a tourism destination, worldwide famous for skiing, hiking, climbing as well as free climbing. The most important places are: Rocca Pietore situated near the Marmolada Glacier, the towns of Alleghe, Auronzo, Falcade and Cortina d'Ampezzo and the villages of Arabba, Urijei and San Martino di Castrozza and the valley of Fassa, Gardena and Badia. Dolomiti has an important culture and we can taste this in the unique event in summer: the Sounds of the Dolomiti.
This year will begin on 3 July with Dolomiti d'Incanto, a special event where sixteen of the best choirs of Trentino will play music and sing in order to pay homage to this beautiful landscape: the Dolomiti. This first event the different choirs will sing at the same time on fifteen different peaks surrounding by the magnificent mountains and atmosphere. During these particular and interesting events there are refuges near the spectacle and stages that still today they protect their charm.

Sounds of the Dolomiti is a trek along the mountains paths, immerse on the nature and music and art, and with a spectacular landscape with echoes and vibrations between sounds of instruments and sounds and silence of nature: a perfect symbol and marriage. And the slogan of the event is clear and suggestive: 'sounds and voices of the earth gathered where the earth meets the sky'. Is a new kind of stage, here public music and mountais are together, for a night they are special and unique thing. On the air there are a special atmosphere sincere passion for spiritual and physical adventures, public and hikers walk step by step toward the summit. There are not only one particular style or language or culture, is a mixture of different art, from classical music to jazz, from songwriters to choirs, from ethnic music to the contemporary and to theatre to stories and tales. The concert is the meeting of art and nature, musicians carries their instruments and sits on the grass or on the rock and plays among the public in a pure nature contest. Music is an universal language and the mountain is a free space: the Festival is this, is an atmosphere and you have to be there to taste the real feeling. In 2010 some venues were: Marco Paolini with Jack London, Dave Douglas Trio and The Orchestra of Piazza Vittorio.
