Gabicce Mare, a natural paradise

First of all, the sea in Gabicce is a guarantee: the equipped beaches and the crystal clear sea make the town the ideal place if you want to spend a relaxing holiday, being sure of swimming in a clean sea. In 2009, indeed, Gabicce was awarded the Bandiera Blu (blue flag) prize, an important award that is bestowed every year on the Italian towns with the cleanest and the most welcoming costs and sea. Since 1987 Gabicce has been awarded this prize 17 times, confirming itself as a town that pays particular attention to the wellbeing of its citizens and tourists and to the safeguard of its territory.

The area where Gabicce rises differs from other zones of the Romagna and Marche Riviera because of the conformation of its costs: not only long sandy beaches, but also cliffs, to meet everybody's desires and provide a unique view, which can be best enjoyed from Colle San Bartolo, in the San Bartolo Natural Park. This is another plus point for Gabicce Mare: the town, indeed, is part of the San Bartolo Natural Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Italy, and undoubtedly tourists decide to visit Gabicce also for the huge fauna and flora heritage of the park.

Established in 1994, the park includes not only Gabicce, but also Pesaro, and is particularly important because it has a unique landscape if compared to any other zone of the Adriatic coast. Here you can find cliffs and caves, which can rarely be found in other places, and high hills on the sea with very narrow, gravel beaches at their feet. The park includes two different zones: the cliff and the internal side. The cliff side includes crags, valleys and sheer cliffs, with picks up to 200 m high, and is interesting also from a geological point of view, as some fossil fishes and crystal of gypsum have been found in it. The internal side has many cultivated areas (vineyards and olive groves) and rows of trees and hedges.

The park hosts many species of animals and plants, which make it a very interesting nature reserve. Some species of plants, like the Linum maritimum, are rare and do not grow in any other area of the region Marche, but there are many other plants, more or less rare, that cover the cliff side and other less steep zones. There are also some woodland areas, which do their part in making the landscape varied and fascinating. As far as the local fauna is concerned, the park hosts many species of reptiles and amphibians, and this zone is affected by the presence or the migration of various species of birds, including the Peregrine Falcon, which is back on the cliff after a long absence. Starting from the 90s, the park has begun to be repopulated also by some species of big mammals, which had gone away also because of the wide cultivated lands, and in the woods you might sight some roes.
