Tiles are a great way to add dimension to a room. Tiles are manufactured pieces of ceramic, metal or stone that can be installed to cover a flat or curved surface. The use of tile dates back to early Greece and the Middle East. People used tile for building dwellings, public centers and places of worship. Tile used for décor was also common. The main purpose of tile was and is to provide a uniform and durable surface. This can be seen with the prominent use of tile on roofs. Tile is durable enough to withstand the elements and prevent moisture penetration.

Floor tiles, normally made of natural stone or ceramic, are a very practical building material. Tile flooring is excellent in homes and spaces where there are a frequent amount of visitors and residents. Tile is easy to maintain and does not require too much special care. Natural stone tiles that are sealed are an excellent choice for homes with children and pets. These tiles have longevity and are virtually hassle free. In the event of a spill, just be sure to clean up the contents of the spill as soon as possible. Products like lemon juice and red wine should not be allowed to settle on natural stone tiles even if they are sealed. This will prevent your tiles from staining.

Natural stone tiles are deeply rooted in antiquity but are still relevant and modern today. Travertine and marble are the most popular kinds of natural stone tiles. Greek and Roman architects and designers revered these stones for their beauty and physical features. Travertine and marble share similar limestone origins but are very distinct from each other. Although both are porous and light colored, travertine and marble have different color and veining characteristics. The stones may look as contemporary or traditional as you like based on the cut and finishes you select. Tiles that are not cut in a square shape tend to look more modern. Tumbled tiles with chiseled edges have more of a classic appearance. Using tiles in unexpected ways can put your project on the cutting edge of design.

Tiles can make a space more attractive. The color of tile can be chosen with a palette and design scheme in mind. Your tile choice could serve as the focal point of a room or just be an accent. Mosaics can be made from tiles of different shapes and sizes. A mosaic is a special creative arrangement of tiles that create an artistic image for decorative purposes. The texture of the tile can add appeal as well.

Modern tile use is very functional. Tile can be used on walls, shower walls, kitchen counters, patios, decks, fireplaces, driveways and walkways. Modern tiles are very versatile and provide a smooth and solid surface where you need it the most. The Stoneline Group has been providing customers in the United States with excellent quality marble and travertine tiles for years. All of their tiles come from quarries in Turkey that are well known for their superior workmanship.
