Those that are charged for goods and services that are not essential to the funeral but are preferred by the client are Optional Fees. These fees can cover embalming, transportation of remains, use of the funeral home, limousine and equipment, interment and the like. All consumers are required to pay the Basic Fee regardless of the specific goods and services they may want included according to the Fuenral rule. However, funeral providers cannot impose payment of Optional Fees because they, as the term indicates, may be availed of at the sole discretion of the client.
Cash Advance Fees have to be paid to a funeral provider, and these cover items or services provided by third parties, including flowers, organists, priests and the like. Funeral Rule requires that funeral providers state these fees explicitly on their pricelist, with a detailed description of each item or service and clients are required to pay these fees. The funeral provider is also obliged to inform the client in cases where there will be refunds, discounts or rebates.
