How solar panel works

With the rising costs of electricity nowadays, it is no wonder that people are looking into alternative means of obtaining electricity. One such way is through a solar panel. A solar panel is basically any type of panel that makes use of thermal energy from the sun in order to produce the much-needed electricity. The most basic definition of how solar panels work is that the sun strikes a certain material; it excites electrons and creates a current and voltage that can be used to power devices.

There are different types of solar panels available. Monocrystalline types of panels are the most efficient as in absorbing sunlight and converting it into electricity which works comparatively better in lower light conditions. The polycrystalline panels are the most common type of solar panels on the market today. They are slightly less efficient then the monocrystalline solar panels and less expensive. The other type of panel you could choose is one called solar thermal collectors (photovoltaic). The work principles are by using the suns energy to heat liquid, which in turn heats the water in your boiler. It also two types of solar thermal collectors - flat plate or evacuated tube.

The silicon is grown into a very thin crystal-like wafer using pressure and heat. It is then coated with two different materials: boron and phosphorous. Boron is coated on one side, phosphorous on the other, with a gap in between the two layers. Boron, when combined with silicon, is a positive material, but it wants to be neutral. The only way it can get neutral is to gain an electron, which has a negative charge.

When sunlight strikes the cell, it gets those electrons all excited. The electrons leave the phosphorous and go toward the positive boron, creating an electrical pressure as they enter the gap. This pressure must be released, and is through the wiring in the cell. This creates the flow, or current.

In order to construct you personal solar panel set, you have to first prepare the materials needed. The most important of which are the identical solar cells or photovoltaic cells. Next thing you must do is build a shallow box utilizing ideally measured plywood or other wood using glue in which sides would not hinder the panel's shade. It would be an advantage for solar panel kit to have a two dimension sub-panels for advance and excellent design. To balance air pressure and block moisture exhaust holes must be put on the side of the box. For improved electric conductivity solar cells are to be positioned in an arranged placement as well as plexiglass front must be put up.

At last, electric cords have to be positioned using a blocking diode and a silicone caulk to stop the panel from discharging batteries during the night. Just be cautious that there would be no shadow effects on your solar panel to make it work.
