Many of the provinces and territories of Canada have a PNP entrepreneur program that will grant a Canada entrepreneur visa to successful applicants. Applicants can then go on to attain permanent residence status for themselves and their accompanying spouse and children if they comply with the requirements of the particular PNP entrepreneur program that they have chosen. The initial Canada entrepreneur visa that they receive is usually only a work visa. The PNP entrepreneur program will enable applicants to get residency only when they have met the conditions of their Canada entrepreneur visa.
The PNP entrepreneur program requires applicants to have business experience and a particular amount of net worth and cash ready to invest in a business in Canada. The amounts do vary depending on the particular provincial PNP entrepreneur program. Each PNP entrepreneur program does require applicants to take an active day-to-day role in managing their business – this is one of the key requirements of the Canada entrepreneur visa. The entrepreneur can either invest in an existing business, or set up a brand new business: either option is acceptable for the Canada entrepreneur visa. Most of the PNP entrpreneur programs do not stipulate a minimum level of English that applicants have to have in order to be accepted for a Canada entrepreneur visa. However, in most cases some English will be required so that the entrepreneur can successfully administer his/her business in Canada. In the case of Quebec it is fair to assume that at least some knowledge of French would be necessary, although again it is not stipulated by the PNP entrepreneur program.

Processing times for receiving a Canada entrepreneur visa vary according to the PNP entrepreneur program chosen: however all options are preferable to the federal program which has a processing time in excess of 3 years. For applicants that do not wish to apply for a Canada entrepreneur visa under one of the PNP entrepreneur programs because they do not wish to run a business in Canada, the investor visa could be a good alternative.
Immigration Canada also allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or common-law/conjugal partner so that they can receive Canada visas for permanent residency. Immigration Canada has a program as well for citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their parents to become permanent residents if they are citizens of a different country. They can also receive Canada visas for permanent residence – however the processing time is very long at four-five years.
