Move Over iPad, New Tablets Coming Through

The iPad has sold a little over 15 million units since débuting less than a year ago. The extraordinary acceptance and growth in the marketplace signals consumer confidence that is sure to surge in the coming months. Some predict that the year of the tablet will more likely become the years of the tablet as their popularity seems to be gaining. In recent months, the iPad has been met with competition from Hewlett Packard, Research in Motion, Samsung and Motorola, all eager to grab significant market share away from Apple, Inc.

The iPad may be marketed as a luxury leisure item of convenience, but the business world has other plans. Many businesses have integrated the iPad into the technological structure of their day to day activity. The iPad has been distributed to many company executives and sales people due to its mobility and features that make any location a great place to do business. People can present images, sound, video and data in a cool way.

As of right now, however, the entrance of iPads into the business world has not meant an exit for PCs and laptops. Workers still depend on their PC for daily responsibilities and communication. Even with an iPad, there is a reluctance to let go of the PC. The computer has dramatically changed the world of business over the past few decades. Many wonder if the iPad will have the same impact and dominance in the next couple of years.

Other companies have taken notice and want to be a part of the action. Off course they do. The tablet represents the way that business will be done in the future. By jumping in the market with a tablet that is more business friendly and even cheaper, these other companies stand a chance of making waves in the industry. The problem with the iPad is that it has been primarily marketed for the individual consumer for fun and entertainment. Sure you can read a book, watch a movie or play games, but what does that equate to from a business standpoint? How does that translate to the business world that is much less about leisure and more about profits, products and services?

The plight of the computer remains to be seen. With every major company dependent upon a PC in some way, will the PC ever phase out completely? Maybe. Until then, tablet manufacturers will flood the market with more options. Hopefully this will allow businesses to guide the direction of tablet product one way or another. Apple, Inc. and others should strive to create tablets that support business in every way possible.

Some businesses have opted not to incorporate tablets because of the expense. Overtime, tablets will no doubt become more reasonably priced and encourage more businesses to purchase them for more of their employees. Maybe in a few years, tablets won’t just be given to executives and higher ups. But on a whole, tablets are here to stay.
