Logo has a special space in any company’s brand building and it gives a unique identity to a company. Every company has rights for its own logo so that on once else can use or misuse that logo. Copyright here plays a vital role. If company has a copyright then if someone else uses that logo then it becomes crime. Thus, logo copyright prevents its use by someone else than the owner company.
In today’s internet era it is a special need to safeguard a logo of a company. If someone will use that may be you can lose your business or your brand image too. Copyright of logo not only protects your brand name but it saves your company’s identity too. Most of the people think that copyright protection and trademark protection both are the similar things but both are different things. Company’s brand image is protected by copyright protection and slogan and logo are covered for the protection under trademark protection so both the things are equally important to secure the brand image of the company.
Under US copyright act there are few set standards for the logo protection. The logos which are very common in the look or have only little variation are not covered under the logo protection act. Same logo with different styles is also not covered under the logo protection act. The copyright covers the symbols which are in need of paternity.
You need to have a unique logo to register that for copyright act and by that you can save your company’s brand image against piracy. Few companies use the image which is available online as a logo but in that case the copyright issue can arise at any time so it is not a worthy idea to use the free online images as a logo.
You need proper care to save your logo being copied by anyone or any company. You can extra security feature that no one can click and copy your logo. You can also write on the logo that the image is subject to copyright. That will give protection up to some level. These steps can minimize the misuse of your logo. Sometimes few people use some images purposefully at that time these things can minimize the misuse.
