In the year of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy Vinitaly, the famous event focused on wine and spirits that takes place every year in Verona, is enriched by a project named in a very patriotic way: the “Unity of Italy Bottle”. Also the wine, indeed, or better to say the wines that are produced in Italy are part of the history, culture and habits of Italy, and the regional varieties of wine properly represent the diversities of Italian regions, diversities that are to be seen as variations of the same national product which has made Italy well-known all over the world.
The project carried on by Vinitaly is meant to celebrate the quality of Italian wine, from North to South, and the Unity of Italy Bottle will be a compendium of the peculiarities of the 20 Italian regions: the project, indeed, includes the production of two wines, a red and a white one, using 40 native grape varieties cultivated in all the Italian regions. Here are the varieties that have been chosen by the regional departments for agriculture: the representatives of red wines are Petit rouge, Barbera, Croatina, Rossese di Dolceacqua, Raboso, Teroldego, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Sangiovese, Cesanese di Affile, Sagrantino, Lacrima, Montepulciano, Tintilia, Negroamaro, Aglianico, Aglianico del Vulture, Gaglioppo, Nero d’Avola and Carignano, while as far as white wines is concerned the chosen ones are Prié blanc, Cortese, Trebbiano di Lugana, Garganega, Weissburgunder, Friulano, Pignoletto, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Grechetto, Malvasia, Verdicchio, Trebbiano, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Greco bianco, Grillo and Vermentino.

An authentic journey through Italy, an idea conceived last year during Vinitaly and launched by the President of Veronafiere, Ettore Riello on the occasion of the visit of the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, which was delighted by the idea. The project then developed with the collaboration of Assoenology and thanks to the work of a commission of oenologists headed by Giancarlo Prevarin and of Riccardo Cotarella, who had the task of deciding the blends and percentages of the varieties of grapes.
The wine of the unity of Italy, with its high symbolic value and capacity to represent and promote the Italian excellence in the field of wines, will be given to the main international authorities, first of all to the President of the Italian Republic, and will be contained in bottles that will be created by designer and architect Aldo Cibic, who is well-known all over the world. A high-value bottle for a unique wine.
Vinitaly will take place in Verona from the 7th to the 11th of April 2011 and as usual it will attract people with a passion for wine, wine producers and sellers, experts and buyers. With a 95,000 sq.m show area, 4 thousand exhibitors, 2 thousand journalists, 153 thousand operators and 47 thousand visitors from all over the world, Vinitaly is the largest exhibition dedicated to the wine sector. Every year the program of Vinitaly includes many events and tastings, but in 2011 it will be even richer than usual thanks to the project of the unity of Italy bottle.
