Mitsubishi EDM

Machinery Values is a licensed, reputable dealer of metal working machining equipment, including Mitsubishi EDMs. We carry new and used Ram, CNC and Wire EDMs for every machining need.

EDM refers to Electronic Discharge Machining, as process by which a desired shape is “machined” by subjecting a work piece to recurrent electrical charges between two electrodes (one of which is the actual work piece) that are separated by a dielectric liquid. When the distance between the two electrodes is reduced, a phenomenon known as the breakdown of a capacitor occurs. This refers to the moment when the intensity of the electric field between the electrodes becomes greater than the strength of the dielectric liquid, which causes material to be removed from both electrodes. Then a new liquid is used to carry away the debris, a process called flushing. The process is repeated until the desired shape has been achieved. Mitsubishi Machining Corporation is the industry leader in this type of machining equipment.

Ram EDMs (also called Sinker EDMs) feature the work piece electrode being submerged in another type of liquid, usually an insulator such as oil. This causes a plasma channel to form when the breakdown occurs. This plasma channel enables spark jumps to occur in large numbers, all striking at the work piece at the same time. Several hundred sparks are generated per second, and the work piece is machined by carefully controlling the parameters of this process as the base metal is eroded.

Wire EDMs (also known as WEDM or wire cutting) utilize a single strand of metal wire in the process. It is most often made of brass and used primarily to deionize the dielectric liquid. The metal wire is fed through the work piece and submerged in die electric liquid. This process is most suitable for cutting, punching holes and machining tools from metal plates that are very thick, up to 300mm. Hence, wire EDMs employ diamond cutters as well.

CNC EDMs refers to automation. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) is an interface that is integrated with the EDM so that the machining operations can be controlled with programmed commands—as opposed to needing manual manipulation. Hand wheels, levers, work piece feeds, geometric specifications, the filling and release of the dielectric liquid can all be programmed into the EDM using CNC technology. It is indispensible to large scale operations.

At Machinery Values, we understand the need to get the right equipment at affordable prices. That’s why we sell both new and refurbished used Mitsubishi EDMs. Our vast experience serving the machining industry for three decades means that you can buy confidently from us. We will never sell you a piece of equipment that is not in proper working condition from the first day or in dilapidated condition.

If you need financing, we have many options available for you. You can get a Mitsubishi EDM on your factory floor with nothing down and up to $100,000 financed if your business qualifies. In addition, we can structure the payments so that they are actually affordable, such as matching them to your market seasons or cash flow cycle. If you want the superior quality of a Mitsubishi EDM on affordable terms, pay Machinery Values a visit today.
