Chicago research papers are research papers that are written using the Chicago writing style. Chicago writing style is based on the Chicago manual of style that was developed by University of Chicago. Writing Chicago style research papers requires carrying out of some form of research where sources must be consulted. These sources must be documented inside the Chicago style research papers using the Chicago writing style. Other types of Chicago style papers include; Chicago essay papers, Chicago term papers, Chicago thesis and Chicago dissertations.
The Chicago writing style provides two options of documenting sources in Chicago style papers. The two option provided by the Chicago writing style include; (a) the author date system of documentation and (b) the note bibliography system of documentation. The author date system in Chicago writing style involve documenting sources inside text by indicating the authors surname and the material's date of publication enclosed in parenthesis and separated by a comma. Where the author of the source material is not known, the title of the material takes over in the parenthesis of Chicago writing style. In cases where a source material has two authors, the Chicago writing style calls for the inclusion of both surnames in the parenthesis. Where the material has more than two authors, only the name of the principle author is included in the parenthesis of Chicago style writing followed by "et al".
The parentheses are placed at the end of sentences where ideas from a source have been used. Where the succeeding sentence also contains ideas from the same source the term "ibid" is enclosed in the parenthesis instead of repeating the same author's name and date of publication. Sources cited inside text by use of parenthesis under this style of documentation are then reflected at the back of the Chicago style papers in a Chicago writing style bibliography. The author date option provided by the Chicago writing style is preferred in the fields of sciences and psychology. The second option of source documentation provided by the Chicago writing style is the note/ bibliography method. The note/ bibliography system in the Chicago writing style involve use of markers to cite sources inside text. Makers in the Chicago writing style are simply raised Arabic numerals that are placed at the end of a sentence where ideas from a source have been used. The markers in the Chicago writing style are numbered sequentially and the numbering system may be chapter specific or document wide. In cases where the same source is used several times inside text, the same maker number is repeated at the end of the sentences containing ideas from that source. The markers are then reflected at the bottom of the page in the Chicago style of writing footnotes are at the end of a division in the Chicago style of writing endnotes.

otnotes and endnotes of Chicago writing style are numbered in correspondences to the marker and serve to provide additional information about the sources that have been cited by the markers. The sources cited in the footnotes or endnotes under this method of documentations are then reflected at the back of the document in a Chicago writing style bibliography. The note/ bibliography method is mainly recommended for those in the field of literature. The Chicago writing style bibliographies are arranged in alphabetical order.
