There have been buzz here and there about the growing importance of back link in the world of search engines. True enough, at least in the top search engine Google, backlinking is not just defined as “incoming links to a website or web page”. It is also considered as one of the major factors in determining a website’s popularity, importance - and most especially, ranking!
But why so? How come? What exactly is a backlink in layman’s term?

Well, for one thing, if you have many backlinks it probably means that many people are reading your page (or at least clicking to your website). On the other hand, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as equals to a vote, by page A, for page B.
So if one website links TO your site, it is already considered one vote or one back link. Now imagine if hundreds of websites do link to yours… thousands? All these backlinks get to be consolidated and read by search engine bots (like spiders, crawlers, etc.) to come up with a search engine ranking for your page.
So how do you accumulate many backlinks then? One way is to encourage traffic to your page by sharing controversial and interesting contents. Another way is to network with other webpage owners so you can help each other through link exchange. Another way is to master the art of “linkbait” such as sharing controversies on celebrities.
Linkbaiting cannot be overdone, however, because there is also a concept called linkspam and somehow the search engines have a way of finding it out. For instance, Google penalizes the ranking of a website that builds TOO MANY backlinks over a short period of time. In worst cases, the spamming website can even be de-indexed altogether.
The safest way (and perhaps the most effective today) to encourage a back link is to create original articles and submit them to directories. These article directories, if they deem your articles useful, will in turn distribute and feature your articles to different websites. Surely, your website will accommodate more and more backlinks and your ranking will be on the first page in no time.
You can create these back links by using your own people or you can outsource them through a dependable and honest back linking service. Or if you want you can purchase a back link software. There are many version of submission software, so you need to be careful in what you buy. The main issue is that some of these software systems only have one type of article directory.
These directories need to be powered by specific software. And they also some times do not allow you to add new directories to the software.
