Centerless Grinders

With a centerless grinding machine, you can complete all your grinding tasks without the complications associated with a spindle. A large amount of parts can be manufactured in a relatively short time using this product.

The work piece that needs grinding has to be placed between a stationary wheel, sometimes referred to as the regulating wheel, and the moving wheel, which is essentially the grinding wheel. The work piece is supported by a work blade, or, work rest, against which it is lodged so that it stays in place.

By tilting the stationary wheel at a slight angle from horizontal, the work piece is manipulated against the grinding wheel in the desired manner. This also gives mechanism horizontal velocity, negating the need for outside feed mechanisms such as an automated feed dispenser.

The reason centerless grinders can churn out a large amount of parts in short order is because work pieces can be continuously fed into the machine using its own horizontal velocity along its work rest, which will remain stable and keep the work piece in the desired position for grinding. This is called throughfeed grinding. Thus centerless grinders are ideal for mass production because of their high output capabilities.

Centerless grinders also provide grinding abilities not possible on OD grinders. They can grind odd numbered geometric parts, or odd numbered lobing on the shafts of such parts. They will also maintain the sizing on a work piece better than an OD grinder because of the low, spaced out pressure exerted against work pieces as it moves along the work rest in the grinding process.
