Tanzania offers several options of things to do. One of the main things most visitors do on a Tanzania trip is go on safari. There are a number of National Parks in Tanzania that offer fun safari experiences. The most popular place for people to go on safari while on a Tanzania trip is the Serengeti National Park. A few other possibilities include the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park. Many of the parks offer the same wildlife viewing opportunities, but the Serengeti has the highest density making wildlife sightings more common sometimes.
Another common thing that people plan a Tanzania trip to do is climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa, so it is not for the beginner mountain climber. There are several different route options to get to the summit. Some routes are harder than others, but all of them are typically done with local guides, cooks, and porters. The types of accommodations on the routes also depend on which route you take with the easier routes tending to have better permanent cabin or tent lodgings available than the harder and less traveled routes.

Scuba diving is another thing you can do on a Tanzania trip. There are a few different scuba diving options in the Tanzania coast and island regions. One of the main places to dive is off the coast of the island of Zanzibar. There are several dive companies that operate on the island including ones in hotels and resorts. The diving in many areas off the coast of Tanzania’s islands are rated easy making it a good place for people who want to learn to dive or are beginners at scuba diving.
Visiting historical sites is another thing to do while on a Tanzania trip. In particular if you are interested in the Arab colonial history of Tanzania there are some good museums and sites to visit to learn more about this period of Tanzania history. One site to visit is the House of Wonders in Stone Town, Zanzibar. This site is a museum housed in a building that dates back to the Arab colonial period. The museum is mostly about the history and culture of Zanzibar, but is also about the Swahili coastal history in general. Another historical site worth visiting if interested in the Arab colonial period in Zanzibar is the Hamamni Persian Baths.
