Know Where To Buy Organic Women's Clothing?

Organic women’s clothing has benefits to the human health and the nature. Cotton uses tremendous amount of pesticides before a tree is ready for harvest. Although it occupies only 3% of the world’s farm lots, it uses 25% of the world’s chemicals for pesticides.

Hence, cotton trees continue to threaten the health of people, wildlife, and the environment. Most pesticides being used today were used as toxic nerve agents during the World War II. It should not surprise mankind why cancers are linked to such chemicals.

In the United States alone, around 84 million of pesticides were sprayed on cotton in 1999. Included in the toxic chemicals are defoliant parquet and parathion which is 60 times more toxic than DDT. The EPA says that 7 of 15 pesticides used on cotton are known as “human carcinogens”.

According to a report, less than 10% of the chemicals applied to cotton actually repel pests, while the rest of the chemicals are absorbed by the plant, air, water, soil, and the human bodies as they wear the clothing made from cotton. Thus, the chemicals once sprayed can drift into the surrounding neighborhood, contaminate the air, ground and surface water, and poison farm workers. They can cause an imbalance in the eco-system.

The problem with pests becomes worse when they grow resistant to the already harmful and strong chemicals contained in pesticides. To consistently ward them off, a stronger pesticide with stronger or larger amount of chemicals is used. And the cycle repeats with the environment and human health as the end-recipient of the harmful effects.

Organic cotton is different. That is why, organic women’s clothing is also different. Organic cotton is grown using natural fertilizers which are free from any toxic chemicals. The organic farmers rely on crop rotation to prevent pests from growing resistant to natural fertilizers. Crop rotation also helps replenish and maintain fertility of the soil.

To control weeds and pests, a mechanical cultivation and botanical and or biological approaches are employed. A government, before it certifies a land to be organic, must be free from pesticides for a minimum of three years. And the cotton must be processed based on the international organic standards.

The same standards stipulate strict guidelines for transportation and storage to prevent cross-contamination. A label indicating organic cotton is given to a company or the cotton producer is issued and certified by an independent bureau recognized by the USDA’s national organic program.

Among the benefits of an organic women’s clothing include reduction in allergies and chemical sensitivity. Organic cotton feels better against the skin. The environment, too, benefits from organic cotton as it is not bombarded with toxic chemicals. It promotes balance in the ecosystem and does not endanger the lives of the farmers.

Organic women’s clothing does not contain any chemical because the fertilizers used do not contain the same. Therefore, a healthier woman can be expected from wearing organic clothing. Organic cotton may also be used in making diapers, underwear, men’s wear and children’s wear.
