The introduction of Nintendo Wii consoles revolutionized the gaming industry. It encouraged gamers to get up off the couch and play their video games in a whole new way. Even the controller got a face lift, bringing maximum interactivity with the game.
The Wii was released on November 19, 2006 and started a whole new generation of gaming systems. It currently competes with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, although it advertises appeal to a wider audience than its competitors. No longer was the controller held one certain way. It made tripping over cords strung across the room – from the TV to the video gamer – a thing of the past. Nintendo also brought its users internet connectivity. With direct links to downloadable games and even Netflix movies, the possibilities for entertainment are endless. No longer do gamers need to go to the store to get a game, or even to their computers to order it online. They simply point their remote at the one they want and download. Moments later the game is ready to play. How’s that for instant gratification. Companies like Netflix are also jumping on the instant download bandwagon and offer Wii compatible software to its members. That allows them to download and watch movies available at Netflix on their Wii consoles.
The Wii can be found for a range of prices, but basic packages usually start around $199, and include the console, 2 game discs and a controller.
