The introduction of Nintendo Wii consoles revolutionized the gaming industry. It encouraged gamers to get up off the couch and play their video games in a whole new way. Even the controller got a face lift, bringing maximum interactivity with the game.

The Wii was released on November 19, 2006 and started a whole new generation of gaming systems. It currently competes with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, although it advertises appeal to a wider audience than its competitors. As of October 2010, the Wii leads the industry in sales, over the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360, and set an unprecedented record for bestselling console in the US in December of 2009.

The Wii’s most distinguishing characteristic is its wireless, motion sensitive controller. It allows users to interact with games in a way never before seen. No longer was the controller held one certain way. It made tripping over cords strung across the room – from the TV to the video gamer – a thing of the past. Gamers can now swing the remote and hit a tennis ball on their screen. They can shake it, and shake the heck out of a bag of coins. It can be held pointed towards the screen, or horizontally like traditional remotes depending on the game’s capabilities.

The console offers a huge variety of games, from adventure games, to puzzle games, to party games played with several people, to dancing and workout games allowing users to work up a fairly good sweat, to racing games and of course all Nintendo’s classic games. Classic games like Mario have been updated to include the new motion technology and offer all new moves and capabilities from Mario, while totally new games like Wii Fit have been introduced, which taps into the video game market to make exercising fun. Each game comes with its own unique interactions, bringing the gamer a new experience with each new release.

Nintendo also brought its users internet connectivity. With direct links to downloadable games and even Netflix movies, the possibilities for entertainment are endless. No longer do gamers need to go to the store to get a game, or even to their computers to order it online. They simply point their remote at the one they want and download. Moments later the game is ready to play. How’s that for instant gratification. Companies like Netflix are also jumping on the instant download bandwagon and offer Wii compatible software to its members. That allows them to download and watch movies available at Netflix on their Wii consoles.

The Wii can be found for a range of prices, but basic packages usually start around $199, and include the console, 2 game discs and a controller. However, companies like Tech-Chic offer bundles or packages for a slightly higher price and a lot more merchandise. Oftentimes, bundles offer a deeply discounted price over purchasing all the items separately.

The “Fun Bundle” offered by Tech-Chic for $359.99, includes Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Ski for a total of 17 different games, 2 steering wheels, 2 boxing gloves, a Wii gun and several other accessories.

The “Gamers Resort Bundle” includes Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Shrek Carnival Games and Nameco Museum Remix for a total of 56 games. The bundle includes 2 remotes in addition to all the standard hardware with the Wii console for $553.83.
