Valued things are meant treasured forever but that is not the case with pictures which is one of our priceless valuables, we want to keep photos forever for the sake of remembering someone, something or some special event but somehow pictures fade away or get ruined. Is it possible to keep pictures in their original state? Pictures CAN last a lifetime if it is well taken care of but it can also be ruined in an instant if it has been left neglected.

1. Prior to placing a picture in a photo frame be sure that you have a mat board with it to protect your photo from damage. It is also important place your photo frame away from the sunlight.

2. Do not store or keep your photos in the same closet or cabinet where you keep your cleaning products or any other harmful chemicals like paint, pesticide or hairsprays because their fumes can actually damage your photos.

3. If you live in an area where disaster like flood and tornado constantly hit your place make sure that you securely keep your photographs in a place where they are safe. You can place it in an enameled steel file cabinet or perhaps if you have a safety deposit box in your home you can place it there together with your other valuables.

4. One way of displaying and storing the photos is through photo album, be sure that you are using an acid-free album pages. Albums these days are already acid-free but to be sure you can check out the label and look for the acid-free word.

5. If you love keeping our photographs in a box be sure that you do not mix it with newspaper clippings as well as other documents. Some newspapers and magazines may contain a small amount of acid which could damage your photo.

6. Make sure that you do not use the actual newspaper cut-out instead have it photo copied using an acid-free bond paper when you are making a scrapbook which would require making use of newspaper clippings.

7. Another way of keeping your photos damage-free is to never write directly on the picture. You can write at the back of the photos but never at the photo itself. Avoid putting any adhesive products like stick-on, stickers, etc as the chemicals used in these can be harmful to the photos.
