Good Practices of a Business Card Campaign

When marketing with a business card, you are actually starting a relationship with your potential customers and not merely asking permission to sell.

Business cards have essentially been a part of business and personal life for decades now. People would usually leave a calling card when meeting with friends and potential clients. Much like the old practice, business cards today inform people who you are and what you do. For this reason, it is important that your cards need to be clear, direct, brief and appealing so that when you give them out to prospective customers, you are certain to get a call back.

Have you ever have attended a gathering or a business meeting where someone walked around the room and hand his business cards to everyone like he is dealing a deck of playing cards? Have you ever wondered what to do with your cards that have been sitting in a box in your table? When is actually the right time to distribute or give out your cards to all your target customers? These questions are probably what you will ask yourself when planning a business card campaign. When you are able to answer all these questions, then you are well aware of the etiquettes of business cards. To aid you in improving your knowledge about the business card etiquette, below are rules that you need to consider.

Rule one - do not distribute your cards like you are dealing a deck of playing cards. This process is unethical, rude and pushy. It is always a must to ask for the other person’s card first, which will usually make the other person ask for your card in return. Moreover, you can simply ask the person politely if you can give your business card to him.

Rule two –avoid distributing or sending out soiled or torn business card templates. If you will do this, your customers will doubt your capability as a businessman which then may lead to the failure of your business card campaign and worst your business.

Rule three – every time you will send out or give your business card to another person, make sure that you will give your card with its print facing up the receiver. This is a very important practice that you must do to show respect to the other person.

Rule four – always treat your business card with respect. Every time you will receive someone’s business card, take your time to look at the card and show your interest to it. This will show the other person that you respect your cards and your business.

Rule five – always show respect to people of higher rank than you are by waiting for them until they ask for your cards.

Rule six –dispose of your cards that you do not want to keep. Avoid rejecting a business offer just to take a business card from another person or businessman.

Rule seven –avoid keeping or placing the cards you receive in your back pocket, wallet or a bag since it shows disrespect to the person who give it to you. Instead place it in a business card holder or planner or any notebook you have or.

Rule eight – if you will distribute or send out your business card to a person that is in a group, better hand your card to everyone in that group. Avoid making someone feel left out in the crowd.
