It is a fact that dealing with cancer is never an easy job, both for the person with the disease and for the people around him. Physical stress is likely to be an issue but, more than that, the psychological dimension of battling this disease can be complicated.

Often times, this has led to conflicts in families, relationships and even among friends. It is not easy to deal with someone who has cancer. However, for humanitarian reasons, the person with a healthier state of body and mind should always be the one to give way. One has to understand the various emotions that a cancer victim is going through.

If there is someone in your family or social circle who has cancer, you will probably notice the person being very anxious or irrationally afraid about things. Fear is something cancer patients normally feel and what they are essentially afraid about is not being able to wake up one day and continue living. This can manifest through small, seemingly insignificant things such as fear of flying or fear of dogs. This can be irritating, especially if you know the person was never afraid before of these things before.

Anger is another emotion a cancer-stricken person might display. This is natural for someone who doesn't get what he wants to feel angry. For someone who feels he just can't find a way to fight cancer, this anger can again manifest in ordinary, day-to-day irritability. Since you are the healthy one, it is your job to simply understand. It is never a good idea to be emotional yourself when dealing with someone in this condition because it will not help and will even worsen the situation he is in.

Major depression is a very common state that cancer patients initially find themselves in. Some don't recover at all and this usually happens when the people around them do not show enough support. Do not treat him like someone who is simply being lazy or unmotivated if you have a sick family member who locks himself up in his room all the time and refuses to take medications. This person is sick with a disease that is probably going to take his life soon. It is good to go out of one's way in being very patient and understanding. Show support as much as possible and do not display signs of your own frustration.

Do not hesitate to seek professional help when you feel that you are unable to handle the situation effectively. It is important that you cure his state of mind because this will make a lot of difference in determining his chances of putting up a good fight against the disease.
