Baby Stuffed Toys

Stuffed toys are one of the most popular items for a baby. But, parents are getting more and more aware nowadays of what’s in a toy and how hazardous it may be to their babies. So, how can you select the most ideal baby stuffed toy?

First of all, make sure whatever toy you select isn’t too big or heavy for your baby. Asses the suffocation risk if the toy should somehow get on top of your baby. Maybe your baby hugs the toy and pulls it on top of herself. Perhaps she falls face down on it. Will this action restrict her airway if you have your back turned?

Also, in keeping with assessing suffocation risk, does the toy have any small parts that could be easily swallowed? Are the eyes buttons or threads that were sewn on? What is the nose made out of? Are there buttons on the toy’s clothing? What is the toy stuffed with? Is it cotton, or small beans or pieces of foam? In the event that the seam became torn, could your child swallow the innards?

Something else to consider when shopping for baby stuffed toys is the toymaker. A lot of toy companies have been conducting recalls as a result of lead or some other toxic chemical being found in their toys. Make sure the company you select doesn’t have any lawsuits against them or recalls in progress. That will help ensure you get the most pure and safest toy for your child, especially with a stuffed toy that will probably spend a lot of time near your child’s face.

Something that may make your life a bit easier, and provide you with peace of mind when it comes to sanitizing your baby’s toys is finding something that’s machine washable. Stuffed toys tend to hold on to dirt and grime, and you don’t want one that’s too delicate for the washing machine or made of fabric that can’t be washed at all. Most parents don’t have time to wash each of their child’s toys individually, but keeping a clean, germ-free environment is a priority. So, having a machine washable stuffed toy for your baby is an ideal solution.
