Everybody’s got scars, but how do you know if you have a “hypertrophic” scar? According to the Oxford Dictionaries Online:”Hyper: beyond; exceeding; Trophic: “from the Greek ‘trophia’ (meaning) nourishment. In essence, a hypertrophic scar is a big, overfed scar. In its growing process, the scar’s cells get bigger and bigger, and leave a pit, crater, or ugly white raised blob where the scab used to be.
We’ve all had enough scars to know one when we see one, but what are scars actually made of? Scar tissue is comprised of the same collagen as the skin that it has replaced. Those thick, ugly, raised, red and yellow slabs are just overgrown, unsightly collagen. So what is the best treatment of hypertrophic scars?

That depends upon the scar—huge scars like burn scars and scars from C-Section surgery will probably earn you a trip to a plastic surgeon. Your surgeon will physically remove the scar and place thin sheets of your own skin over the incision then encourage it to grow together. Depending on the scar, your surgeon may choose to trim it or wear them away with laser abrasion.
What if the scar you want to get rid of is only a leftover pit from acne or the chickenpox? If you wait long enough, chances are it will fade away all by itself, but that can be a long time to wait while feeling self-conscious about a skin discrepancy. On the other hand, choosing plastic surgery as a treatment of hypertrophic scars may seem a little extreme.
Clinical tests show that hypertrophic scar treatments like InvisiScar’s silicone sheets are the most effective (and most cost effective) way to make your hypertrophic scar disappear.
The sheets treat old and new scars, and come in different shapes and sizes. Pick the size nearest to the circumference of your scar and trim it to match its size. They come in:
* 1.5x4” sheets,
* 2”x3” sheets,
* 1.6” diameter round patches,
* 3”x5” patch for larger wounds,
* 2”x8” sheets,
* 2”x12” sheets,
* 4”x8” sheets (ideal for the stretch marks left behind after baby)
The larger hypertrophic scar treatment sheets are perfect for big scars such as stretch marks, C-Section scars, tummy tuck scars, and breast augmentation surgery scars. All sizes treat wound scars and surgery scars of all types, even chemical scars, burn scars, and scars left over from chicken pox, acne, even insect bites. If you’ve had skin grafts, they fade the scars left from that procedure as well.
Hypertrophic scar treatments are easy on the budget, too. They range in price from $34.95 through $54.95.
