Since Christmas is one of the most profitable times of the year for retailers, it always helps to be prepared. As internet retailers, it is important to plan in advance. Since your webpage is essentially your holiday decorations, a well-thought out Christmas campaign is the way to go. A creative and festive website, gives a consumer the same feeling as walking into to a well decorated brick and mortar establishment.

Internet store owners should:
Avoid over-decorating. Use a holiday theme without turning your website into a Griswold Christmas.

Ensure that holiday delivers are processed and shipped on time.
Offer clear and direct lines of communication; consumers need direct contact information.
Utilize customer feedback and make changes the following year.
Place the best sellers on your home page. Offer top holiday gifts.

A Christmas theme is a great idea. However, do not over due it. Leave customers feeling warm and in the holiday spirit by offering a small taste of the holiday season. For example, a holiday trim, holiday background music, or a few strategically placed holiday graphics. A Christmas theme is nice, but the primary goal of e-commerce is to present the products to the consumer in a means that is appealing to their tastes. Retailers also need to remember to maintain the image of their brand. Customers need to be able to see the entire store or brand name upon visiting your website.

Since Christmas is also a very busy time for the post office, ensure that seasonal delivery is accurate. Nothing could be worse than an upset child on Christmas morning, all because his/her parents did not receive their package on time. This is not good for business. Problems with shipping can cause an online retailer to lose business the rest of the year.

With Christmas being a busy time of the year, have employees available to quickly respond to phone and e-mail inquiries. Have contact information easily accessible and post the hours your business can be reached by phone.

All of these concepts will lead to great customer feedback. Positive feedback will create customer retention as well as new customers. The main goal is to give customers what they want, offer outstanding customer service, and provide quick shipping.
