As a general rule, knockout roses do not require more than every three years. Nonetheless, if you want to do a little trimming to keep the bush or shrub in a certain shape then you can trim anytime.

The best time to prune
During the early spring when growth is just starting is the best time to do pruning.By getting rid of old wood found in the center of your plant, you encourage growth.An added advantage of doing this is that it can allow more air circulation and prevent diseases from attacking the plant.
