Designing Letterheads for a Specific Audience

While most letterheads are meant for a more general audience, certain kinds of letterhead printing will require more finesse. For example, in letterhead printing for marketing letters, you will not want generic letterheads for those potential clients and investors of course. You want letterheads designed for that specific audience to increase the chances of those letters succeeding.

In this guide to letterhead development, I am going to teach you how to design your letterheads with a certain kind of finesse that fits a specific audience. Below are the main concepts that you should learn and apply to your color letterheads.

a. Proper audience research – The initial step to develop more powerful letterheads is to do some proper audience research. Knowledge is power in most situations and in letterhead printing, acquainting yourself with the typical readers of your marketing letters will help you design letterheads better suited in attracting them. So make sure that you research who exactly your letters will be sent to and of course learn their likes and dislikes. With that knowledge you should have a better idea of how to approach your designs for letterhead printing with a little bit more finesse and deliberateness.

b. Using attractive images aimed for the audience – Now after getting that initial research, you will then have a better idea of the kinds of designs that you need for your readers. The first thing that you may want to do to attract that specific audience better is to use the best images aimed for them. This is an easy enough thing to do.

For example, if your audience for your marketing letters is more the business crowd of investors and clients, then it is best to give them images that they want. Typically these are images about success, profits and of course professionalism and excellence. If your audience however is a more general crowd of people, then you may want to go for images about family, friends and prosperity.

If you face a more male crowd, a good looking female model can get attention for your color letterheads, while the opposite is true of course for a more female crowd. Just give your readers the images they are usually attracted to and you will get the attention your color letterheads need.

c. Use themes appropriate and expected by the audience – Besides the images, the overall theme should also be deliberately decided on to be appropriate for the target audience. In most cases, professional audiences in your industry will expect more corporate and formal themes. This is not only the norm, but your color letterheads will need to earn that respectable image with their formal themes.

However, if your audience is again more of the general crowd, then the theme you will need is something that has more of an energetic and popular appeal. You can use prevailing trends in culture such as social networking for example and integrate it in your design. This should help you maintain the interest of your readers, hopefully giving you the response you need to succeed.

d. Emphasize key specific details – Lastly, one key thing you can do for your letterhead design is to emphasize the specific details that your particular audience needs within your color letterhead. For example, if your audience is more of the professional kind, then words like “profit” and “gains” should be emphasized by making them bold or maybe having a larger font size. You can also emphasize specific images, and design elements to help hook readers first on your letterheads before they learn more about you and your business. Emphasis is the key to getting that firs initial look, so make sure you use this concept for your own letterheads.

Great! Now you know how to design letterheads for specific audiences. Good luck!
