Computers have mingled with our day to day life. They are means for storing and restoring data whenever and wherever it is necessary. To communicate with computer we need a proper Operating System (OS) and one of the most popular and best Operating System available is the Microsoft Windows Operating system. This OS is used by majority since it is very user friendly and now literally dominating the Personal Computer market and also managed to provide users with Data Security and Safety.

So what happens when one fine morning you wake up and find that your computer is not booting. Maybe showing a Blue screen of death or just getting restarted everytime. If it’s not a Hardware Fault a plain and simple solution is to reformat the whole Hard Disc Drive (HDD) and freshly install Windows Operating system but the above method will delete all data from the HDD which maybe not acceptable to many of us. So what’s the solution? Luckily Microsoft has solution(s) to repair this Operating System without losing any data whatsoever though it is highly recommended by Microsoft that we must always take backup of valuable data in CD/DVD or other backup devices. There are lots of versions of Windows the major among those from Client Side being Windows 95/98/Me/XP/Vista/7 and among Server side being Windows Server NT/2000/2003/2008. Not all the repair methods described below applies to all versions of Windows and must be checked before applying. You can also consult a computer repair services company for PC support.

System Restore: Starting from Windows Me, Windows OS has a great utility called System Restore which allows us to bring the computer to an earlier state when it was working perfectly. This tool can be accessed from Start Menu-> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools ->System Restore.

Windows System Files Repair: Another way of repairing Windows OS is by using Windows Installation Setup CD/DVD. The present method applies well for Windows XP. For this we need to boot the computer from Setup CD. While booting an option will pop up saying "Press any key to boot from CD...". We just need to press any key to boot from CD. After that we must agree to End user Agreement. A screen will come up where we need to press R (Repair) key. Setup will continue. We just need to follow the onscreen instruction. Windows Vista and Windows 7 can be repaired using the same method. In case of R the option which must be selected is Upgrade. Another option is to click the Repair option which will open Startup Repair Recovery tool. This will open lot of options which will help to repair the OS.

Parallel Installation: Parallel installation is a method which can be applied to repair Windows OS. This particularly works well with Windows 98, ME, XP. To continue with this process we first need to disable any antivirus or firewall which might interrupt the installation procedure. Next we need to boot from installation CD. Windows will ask to confirm the install drive. On confirming Windows will give a list of option including "Leave the current file system intact". We must choose this option. Windows will ask a name of a different folder. On providing a different name setup will continue.

Recovery Console: Another method for repairing of Windows XP is through Recovery Console which can be accessed by pressing R-Recovery Console while computer is booting from installation CD. At any time we can type help to display list of commands. If we want help on a particular command we can type help (command name). This particular method is useful for advanced users.

So, what will you do if you are facing problems with your Windows OS? You can surely try out the above procedures or call a local technician who might take 2-3 days to actually get time to see your computer problem or you can always call any online service helpdesk who will take care of the problem instantly.
