Business Week October three, 2005 recently ran a writing entitled The Overworked Networked Family. Within the article was an inventory of seven tips to avoid burnout. I've changed their list a bit and added a number of my own to make ten tips. The main target of the article was how professionals and information workers can use technology to balance work and family life.
1. Prioritize. What are the two or 3 things you must do during your day? Flag those tasks and do them first. Prioritize the remainder of your "to try and do" list. As David Allen of David Allen and Company and author of Getting Things Done says, "There is continually additional to do than there is time to try and do it."
2. Delegate less necessary tasks. If that's impossible place the least vital tasks on the back burner.
3. Do not over schedule yourself. Leave it slow in your day for emergencies that come up.

4. Build enough time in your schedule to try and do the work. It's typically best to double the number of your time you're thinking that you need to try and do a specific task. This will offer you time to transition from one task to another. It also can permit you to require a breather once during a whereas too. If you are like me you regularly under estimate how long a project can take. Take stock of your ability to estimate. If you never have enough time to end you'll have to triple the quantity of your time you allot. If you're forever right on the cash then simply add a small quantity of extra time for breaks and transitions.
5. Use technology to your advantage. Manage your schedule around your family events or personal appointments. These days you'll take the work home if you need to or take time off during the day and work within the evening using technology. Do that to help balance work and family life. Use technology to assist you to remain connected but keep in mind there is invariably an off button!
6. Take time off. If you need to be "on call" screen your calls and emails on daily off. Respond solely when urgent. Set boundaries around your own free time. Take vacation time to induce totally away from your work for a vital period of time (at least every recommends 3 weeks vacation a year.
7. Schedule face to face time with friends and family. Being with colleagues and family is additionally important. Don't isolate yourself. Make certain to spend time with each family and colleagues
8. Notice ways in which to be creative. Cook, garden, paint, write, play an instrument, build one thing - simply a few ideas to use your creativity and leave your work behind.
9. Exercise. Schedule workouts at the gym or leave time in your day for running, swimming, biking or enjoying tennis. Find ways that to sweat!
10. Set a time to go away the workplace each day (before 9PM!) and continue it. If your job requires late nights then come back into work later too. Get 7 or 8 hours sleep every night.
