Many love to have pets around and the most common are fishes. However, we should not be the only ones who are benefiting from our pets, we should also learn to take care of them especially their health.
The quality of the water in an aquarium or a pond determines the health of your fish. If the condition inside an aquarium or pond is not right, chances are that the fishes in there will get ill or possibly die.

Aquatic Plants - putting aquatic plants to your pond or aquarium greatly helps your fish in their breathing. Small aquatic plants are also known to be eaten by some fishes. Having a plant in your pond provides oxygen and food for them at the same time.
pH level - pH is a unit of measurement for acidity. The pH level of water is a measurement of acidity on it, ranging from 0 to 14. If the pH level in water is 7 then it is neutral, if it is above 7 it is alkaline, and if it is below 7 it is acidic. pH levels in ponds are not constant. They usually change from time to time due to the levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), the filter performance and KH (buffering).
Water - Water is the main environment where fishes live. A clean and healthy water means a healthy fish. Your aquarium's water should be clear and clean. If your aquarium's water will start to become dirty and full of algae, then that is the time for you to change the water. Replacing your water is extremely critical for your fish's survival. A dirty and full of algae aquarium may cause your fish to get "suffocated" due to the high levels of CO2 and die.
Alkalinity - This is a term used when water is able to withstand changes in pH level in the water. This is also known as KH buffering. Alkalinity is also used to measure the level of bicarbonate and carbonate ion concentration in the water. A good level of alkalinity level is 100 of 300 ppm, ppm stands for Parts Per Million. When your pond is on this level, then it should be able to provide great buffering and produce a much more stable pH.
Figuring out the alkalinity of your aquarium is very important. If the pH level is high, your fishes might die. Even the small stuff like this would affect the fish's health. Now, you understand how important it is to make sure that your fishes are in good health.
