The chance of having ornaments and complements in wrought iron in our homes seems to be due, in fact, to a case: the first production of wrought iron could have been obtained by chance, while manufacturing copper.
Thanks to the case that brought to the discovery of this kind steel with a low content of carbon we can prepare a table or sit on a chair made of wrought iron, choosing the shape we prefer among the many available: the offer is very wide, and it comes from an ancient tradition.
The wrought iron manufacturing involves a huge variety of objects, from single as well as double beds to shelves of various kinds, and then ornaments and other objects of various shapes and sizes: being a very ductile material, wrought iron can be moulded during its manufacturing, and the capability of the expert artisans can give it shapes that you would never imagine to associate to iron. Petals, plants, flowers: fine and delicate shapes to which a hard and strong material like iron can hardly be associated with. Wrought iron, though, is different: it can be moulded giving it the shape you want, then it will keep it with the typical firmness of iron.
Among the most common products made with wrought iron there are gates and bed heads: wrought iron is ductile during its manufacturing process but it becomes very durable and resistant afterwards, so that it is also easy to find portcullis in wrought iron, mostly used at the ground floors as a protection.

In Italy, Marche is a region in which the manufacturing of wrought iron is particularly important: in many buildings in that area, in fact, you will see wrought iron manufacturing, and the most important towns in Marche for this kind of art are Force and Comunanza, towards the southern part of the region, in the province of Ascoli Piceno.
Even nowadays, the wrought iron manufacturing, of course, is still artisanal: the master craftsmen conjugate, with their art, force, delicacy and precision. Wrought iron, in fact, is able to combine in a particular way the force and hardness of iron with the gentleness of a sculpture.
Hence, the objects made in wrought iron can actually be considered art pieces, with complicate manufacturing and shapes: the hand of a master is necessary to get them. Tradition and experience are the main ingredients to obtain a product of quality, accompanied by quality materials: the result are strong and beautiful objects with which we can decorate our homes; they can have purely aesthetical functions – just think for example, of a candelabra or any ornament – or they can either have a functional role in the house, like in the case of beds, bottle racks or external gates.
