A Review of the Southern Living Business Opportunity

Being from South Carolina this company sought my attention. Anything that brings back the feel of my hometown is of great interest. So, I thought I would do a bit of research to satisfy my curiosity and find out what this company is all about.

I learned that the founder was a farmer from North Carolina and he began publishing a small agricultural magazine called the Progressive Farmer. He wanted to improve the livelihood of the farm families throughout the south. Even though my immediate family was not part of that farming community, I had many ancestors and old relatives still living out in the country of South Carolina that were.

His determination for a better quality of life led to the beginning of one of the most successful magazines published in America today. You guessed it, the magazine is Southern Living and it has been sitting on coffee tables, kitchen counters and talked about since the 1960s. I remember seeing this magazine in my grandmother’s home for years. She said she got a lot of her best recipes from that magazine.

Well, this was also the beginning of the Southern Living At HOME, which was created in January 2001. The company displays the same values and principles on which the magazine was founded so many years ago. They want to help entrepreneurs to realize their dream of owning their own business and achieving financial freedom.

Southern Living At HOME is a company that allows you to work when you want and as often as you want. You will sell your product by conducting home parties for your friends and family, and then you will gain more customers and referrals from there. It seems that the word of mouth will be your best advertisement.

You will be able to earn up to 25 profit on your personal sales. And you can sign up for only $199 plus tax. You will receive a beautiful Starter Kit that is filled with samples of their exclusive products and all the business supplies you will need to get started. You will also get a one year subscription to Southern Living magazine.

You will not be required to keep inventory on hand and you can put your orders in on the Internet for free, and the company provides free credit card transactions. And you won’t need to worry about providing a reward for your hostess; the company will provide that for you.

When you reach a $1000 in party sales, and you are also recruiting new Consultants, you will be able to earn 2 to 9 on your team’s sales. This is called a royalty and is based on the wholesale value, not the retail sales volume. Then the percentage is calculated on any Consultant that you have on your personal team who is at a lower rank than you in the payment plan. The percentage earned is determined by your “paid as” rank in the payment plan.

When you become a Director, you can earn .5 to 3 on your Director teams down four generations deep. This percentage is calculated on your Director’s group wholesale volume again.

The payment process is done when you, the Consultant, collects all the money from the guests, including the sales tax, shipping and handling. You will then keep 25 of the guest retail sales as your profit and send the company the payment for the wholesale rate.

This does sound like a fun company to sell for. It is nice that you don’t have to keep any inventory, matter of fact; they don’t allow you to have inventory in your home. Are you ready to do home parties? Do you think you want to try this, and deal with multi level marketing where you have to worry about recruiting? I have tried it so many times I have lost count and I can’t say that I was successful at any of them.

I was a part of the 90 that fail or drop out of multi level marketing. I am still waiting to meet someone that is part of that 10 that succeed. I wish you success in whatever you choose. Go for your dreams!
