We can find different types of floors that are made up of different types of wood. These woods could either be made from hardwood, softwood or processed/manufactured woods. But what are the differences among these three? Do they have different characteristics? This article focuses on the different characteristics of each type of wood.

Hardwood - From the name alone, we could already say that these woods are harder than softwoods. What mainly separate hardwood from softwood are the pores it has which softwood doesn't. These pores are usually caused by worm which eat away the wood. Some of the most common types of hardwoods are oak trees, ash, beech, maple, cherry, acacia, holly, boxwood and holm oak, mahogany, teak and ebony.

Softwoods - Don't be fooled by the name because these woods aren't really that soft at all. As a matter of fact, balsa, which is a type of hardwood, is even software than softwoods. These types are used to make card boards, furniture, pulp and others and these types usually come from conifers.

Engineered Wood - This wood is man made and it is made from different types of woods combined together to form one single wood.

The uses of engineered wood are most of the time the same as those of solid wood. One of these is its flexibility in terms of designs. They can also be engineered to specifically suit the purpose that it will be made for.

Each of these have their own unique characteristics. They are commonly used in making furniture, buildings, homes and many more. Your choice of the type of wood is important because this will affect the end product.

If you are building or renovating your home, it is important to choose the right type of wood. There could be many things you should consider when choosing what type of wood to use. One of these things is the load that this floor is probably going to have. If you have children in the family, you may need a type of wood that is strong so it can handle wear and tear.

If you are not really accustomed with these kinds of wood and you are planning to build your dream home, make sure that you talk it through with an expert so that you would not end up regretting your choice. Be open minded and think about the expert's advice.
