Attending college can be so much more than just a means to an end: it can be a part of a person’s life dream. Making higher education a reality means finding a college that fits your learning style and future career goals. Yet, you also want to base some of your decision on location. If you’ve always dreamed of living near the coast, you often can combine gorgeous ocean scenery with an outstanding college. Southern California, with its glorious coastline, is rich in colleges and universities, and San Diego is one of the most beautiful of the coastal regions.
You can find an undergraduate degree program in almost any field among the San Diego California colleges. Marine biology? Got it. Business? No problem. Architecture? Sure. In fact, there are bachelor degree-granting colleges in the San Diego area that specialize solely in some of these fields. If you already have a career path in mind, you might prefer a college that provides all the usual lower-division courses (history, writing, science) which are part of any bachelor degree, but that also allows you from day one to begin learning about your chosen career.

If your goal is a masters degree San Diego has many options for you to consider. A wide range of graduate-level programs are offered by large universities and by smaller institutions specifically dedicated to fields like law and architecture. San Diego is a large enough city that opportunities abound for experiential education during your post-graduate studies, too.
Obviously, San Diego is a great place for college if your interests lie in oceanography or Pacific Rim studies. The area is also perfect for those looking toward the arts, popular culture or history. San Diego architecture includes historic Mission structures and buildings from the Gold Rush period. There are thriving media arts and design communities in the area, many of which offer internship opportunities through local colleges.
You’ll remember the experience of going to college for the rest of your life, so research many universities carefully to find the best fit for you.
