Building a Shed in Quick Easy Steps

One of the best news that many DIY (do-it-yourself) enthusiasts can ever have is the fact that there are now many manufacturers out there who provide easy shed building plans, complete with light weight and easy to assemble materials. This means that building a shed -- make that: building a quality, sturdy and great looking shed can be as easy as 1-2-3. If you are not such a DIY enthusiast, you may want to add 4-5-6…10 to that count, but you still can create your own backyard or garden shed in no time. Here are a few tips how.

1. Always start off with getting the right measurements. Go to your backyard or garden and measure off the area where you want the shed to stand. Make sure that the designated area is at least 4 feet away from the nearest structure (e.g. the fence, side of the house, or the greenhouse.) This will lessen potential fire hazards. Aside from taking the actual dimensions, make sure also that you measure the overhead space too. Choose areas that have no overhanging structures (e.g. roof, awning, or second storey of the house) or nearby trees or low hanging branches.

2. Go online and scout around for companies that sell DIY shed plans and materials. More often than not, these companies would be willing to sell you ready made frames, roofing structures, and recommendations for the flooring area. Try to choose shed models that are somewhat smaller than the dimensions of your chosen shed area.

This is also the perfect time to choose what kind of shed you want. Do you want a multi-purpose backyard shed that can double up as an extra storage space for you home -- in which case you would might need to install electrical outlets too; or would you prefer that the shed remains exclusively for storing away simple gardening tools and materials?

3. Buy the necessary materials that are not part of the DIY kits. These materials may include basic tools such as adhesives, hammer, extra nails, a small saw, etc. Buying safety gear is also advisable. You may also want to invest in work goggles, gloves and a good light.

4. Always put in the flooring first when building a shed. This would depend on what kind of flooring design you would want. Putting in the flooring would also make your shed sturdier and last longer.

5. Follow the DIY kit’s instructions explicitly. When you are finally building a shed, make sure that you follow all the instructions down to the last letter. Avoid making shortcuts or substituting materials. Such practices will only make your efforts useless, plus this makes the work go a lot slower.
