She has been contemplating of the career change for years now even since her colleague did the same decision a year ago to put up her own online boutique. She saw how her friend’s business boomed and made her one of riches entrepreneur of in their place.

She wanted to be just like her friend—rich, successful, and independent. She want to be free from pressure from the company she currently works and want to get more free time to manage her life. Susan, however, found out that starting a business is easy, but sustaining it is a difficult process. Many business owners, just like Susan, go through this dilemma. The business may have been able to draw in large number of customers at start perhaps because you are new in the area. Your postcards may have worked in keeping people interested, but as days progressed people suddenly lose interest in you. Now, how to sustain the success you once experienced? Are there secrets you should know to attain sustainability? Here are a few pointers for you to consider:

• Maintain quality of products or services. The key to keeping people loyal to you is quality products. Make sure to maintain high quality in your offering to ensure that people continually purchase from you despite difficulties in the market.

• Communicate well. One of the traits of a successful business owner is being a great communicator. You need to know how to listen to your customers and when it is your turn to talk you need to do so with clearness and persistence.

• Diversify. The most successful businesses in the market know how to explore different areas to improve their products or services. You need to move away from your expertise to do this. You simply need to try your hand in new areas. Offering something new to your customers from time to time will help you sustain market success.

• Continually market your business. Many business owners dread the cost of marketing. As a brochure or postcard printer can change thousands of dollars in print jobs, many fail to follow up on their marketing campaign. To market continually though doesn’t mean that you continuously print postcards, posters, or brochures. Marketing can take the form of joining communities or organizations where customers materialize organically.

• Learn, learn, learn. In business, new things, trends, and strategies emerge continuously. By taking in new information, skills, and experiences, you get new ideas on how to improve your business.

• Accept change. Nothing is permanent, after all. People leave, technology advances, and the market evolves, so make sure to accept changes in the market and be ready to make the necessary adjustments to coping with these changes.

These pointers will surely help Susan and all other business owners in sustaining business success. Just be creative and drum up new business ideas from time to time and people will surely go after you. Likewise, be patient and maintain a positive attitude and professional manner at all times. Love what you do and success will simply follow.
