I recently started a blog concerning what it's wish to be a writer. Now that it's public information that I love to write down (yes, it used to be my dirty very little secret), I buy this query a minimum of once daily: "Why do you write?" It's a loaded question , and I pity the fool who asks it of me. In all seriousness, though, it's actually a deep query that can't be answered in passing, if at all. I'm nearly certain this is often a query to that the answer can only be fully understood by different writers, but I am going to try to answer it anyway . . . I mean, I'm going to attempt to let one among the world's most famous authors answer it for me.
If you are reading this article (or any article about writing), it's a near certainty that you've got, at some point in time, browse Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. If not, I strongly recommend you drop all of your other "to scan" lists and acquire to it. If indeed you have got browse this fantastic classic of recent Yank literature...
The quote is as it should be's character, Atticus (a widowed father), who says,
"I wished you to determine what real courage is, rather than getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you recognize you're licked before you begin but you start anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do."

So, my answer, borrowed from Atticus, is that I (and alternative authors, I presume) write because it's the foremost courageous thing I recognize a way to do. I write as a result of it is a sworn statement to the masses that we tend to all must attempt, against all odds, to work out that which fulfills our passion through to the bitter end.
Writing (at least publishing) can be a losing battle - after all, more often than not it is. To write down a work of art that others (outside of 1's immediate family) find worth reading could be a rare win - but it is not an impossible task. As writers, normally, we know that we are "licked" before we have a tendency to begin, however we tend to "begin anyway" and we "see it through irrespective of what." Why? Simple. Because we have to. There is a collective force abundant stronger than the individual that pushes us to write down and to fight the battle to finish. There is something therefore tempting concerning the chance of "typically" winning that it is a lot of painful to not write than to write.
Why do writers write, you raise? Why will anyone follow their passion once they understand that winning may be a long shot? Why? As a result of we have a tendency to have courage, darn it, that's why! We write as a result of it's the foremost courageous factor we tend to understand a way to do...as a result of we have a tendency to have been blessed (or cursed, because it may be) with the hands of a writer.
"I pray for the hands of a writer." They are words I scan years ago, written by Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline. Once I read these words, something changed in me...one thing that was as much as a calling as it absolutely was a confirmation. I am a author; therefore, I must write. I knew then that the gift I had been given was specifically that: the hands of a writer. It is a gift no better than any different - no a lot of vital - but it's mine and I'm grateful.
Foster started his book, as many authors do, with acknowledgments. In that section he wrote:
"I am struck profoundly by the weakness of words...and nevertheless I am struck even more profoundly by the actual fact that God can take one thing thus inadequate, thus imperfect, therefore foolish as words on paper and use them to remodel lives."
